Google yesterday launched its first "smart" mobile phone, Nexus One, hoping to take a big bite out of Apple's hugely popular iPhone.
It unveiled its techno-baby with much fanfare at its headquarters in California, bragging about the device's multiple talents -- including the ability to run on a choice of wireless networks and turn spoken words into text.
Perhaps the most revolutionary Nexus innovation is giving purchasers the eventual option to choose a carrier. For now, iPhones operate only on AT&T.
